Representational images are created through the selective sizing of an array of letters. The letters are from the name of the character shown in the resultant image. By utilizing the BitmapData class of the Macromedia¡¯s Flash 8, source images are down-sampled and recreated as cellular mosaics. The intensity levels of the cells were inspected and stored in a 2D array. This data was used to decide the sizes of the letters in the ¡°type face¡± version of the image.

The images used in this example are the faces of the celebrated personalities in the 20th century. If you don't recognize the faces, you may be standing too close to the display. The observation of digitized displays is just another step in the interpolation process of image information. In this work, I found great potentials in manipulating bitmap data through the Macromedia¡¯s Flash 8. This work is inspired by the AMODA.MOSAIC by Jared Tarbell.
